I grew up in a single-parent household where my mom worked tirelessly to raise my brother and me. Back then, I was a complete knucklehead. I graduated 10th from the bottom of my high school class and only made it into college because I was good at sports. By 19, I was on the "bad" Dean's List—the one for students about to get kicked out.
The breaking point came two weeks into my sophomore year. I got into a fight at a party and knocked somebody out. I spent four nights in jail, facing serious charges and watching my life spiral. When my dad bailed me out, he gave me an ultimatum: "You're going to read the Bible with me".
I started working 100-hour weeks, but I quickly realized I didn't want to grind for 60 years just to hope a 401k worked out. That's when I discovered real estate.
